Look elsewhere for good Citra beer !
I had read the first two reviews here, when I decided to try one bottle anyway, as I do like to make my own mind up, and taste is subjective ! Like the first reviewer I really enjoy other beers using Citra hops, such as Oakham Citra and Adnams Ghost Ship. I should have gone with what he said though ! Erred on the side of caution and just bought the one, but it was one too many ! I don't know what Shepherd Neame are thinking - all their other beers are decent enough. Unfortunately this is really unpleasant - soapy, perfumey smell and taste. Back to the drawing board Shepherd Neame. Maybe give Oakhams a visit - they know what they're doing with Citra hops. This tastes like a failed experiment they've decided to try and sell anyway.
If I could leave zero stars I would. A truly awful experience and I’ll be returning the 2 remaining of the 3 I bought tomorrow. How you can call this a beer of any kind is beyond me. It tastes like washing up liquid. Avoid!!!
Decided to give it a try despite last review. Started off OK, if a little different. Quickly found it very soapy and perfumed. Way too fragrant and soapy.
Very disappointing beer
I have never had a bad beer from the Shepherd Neame brewery - until now. This beer tastes like when you get shampoo in your mouth whilst washing your hair but with a sour milk finish. Ended up pouring all 3 bottles down the sink.
Firstly, let me be clear that citrus tasting American style IPA beers are my number one go to, Lagunitas, Snake Dog, Goose Island, Brewdog, Oakham Citra, Proper Job, Adnams Mosaic and Ghost ship, to name but a few. So I was excited to see a new IPA beer on the shelf to try, chilled it for 2 hours, then poured into a glass, firstly the aroma, a bowlful of dishwater (specifically Fairy Liquid), followed by the taste, another bowlful of the same.It wasn't just me either, my wife also loves this style of beer and 100% agreed. Was this a dodgy batch ? Unfortunately I have another bottle, which I will 'blind test' on a friend.
