Would never recommend, awful!
Gravy? what gravy??. This pie was dreadful, tough meat, no gravy, and pastry that was far too thick ( probably how it weighed 500g)!
Cynical exploitation of "Finest" label
Very poor indeed for what's supposed to be a "Finest" product. Thick pastry and very little steak. Pathetic, really. Tesco is now our supermarket of last resort.
Very heavy pastry
It really was a pie which was all about the pastry. The pastry was extremely heavy and thick and wasn’t cooked properly inside due to the thickness of it. I shared the pie with my husband and we both left a lot of pastry on our plates. There wasn’t much steak and it was quite hard meat. The flavour of the gravy was ok, I could taste the red wine. Overall we didn’t enjoy it, I wouldn’t buy it again
Awful the worst pie ever.
Awful, I actually was looking for the finest steak and ale Pie but here were none. Consequently I purchased this awful inedible pie. The pastry was poor the filling tasted nothing like any pie I’ve ever experienced. Probably the worst product I’ve ever eaten from Tesco in thirty years. Just don’t buy it yuk.
I cannot grant this Tesco Finest Steak & Red Wine Gravy Pie any stars whatsoever but I am forced to give it one in order to submit my review. The suggested oven time and temperature did not completely cook the masses of glutinous pastry. The filling was mainly air. I did not see anything like ~30% cow as stated in the list of ingredients, unless it was hidden as fat in the uncooked, inedible slabs of pastry. Said limited cow rations were chewy. The gravy, as mentioned in other reviews, was definitely odd. The overall flavour was peculiar. The experience ensures I shall never purchase another. Altogether a very sadly unsatisfactory product.
DO NOT BUY!
No steak.......literally slithers of steak.....It's a finest pie and obviously higher cost. I really don't moan either, would have taken it back if i did. The inside of the pie doesn't cook properly either, so all round just terrible. Packet says 30% meat, but im not sure what test they have done here, so daylight robbery really. Empty pie, a pie that doesn't cook inside and therefore burns on outside if keep trying to cook it!
Very poor for Finest range.
Used for dinner, pastry was so hard almost impossible to get out of foil tray, meat still a bit firm although quite big pieces. Not keen on red wine gravy.Would not buy again. M.Banks.
Better on the packet than the plate ...
Very disappointing, pastry was tough and chewy, filling was dry and totally dominated by the flavour of smoked bacon. This needs a re-think and the bacon eliminated to allow the steak (what there was of it) and red wine to come through and given that ovens vary tremendously in their heating ranges it might be wiser to go with normal rather than puff pastry. It's all very well writing mouth watering descriptions on the packaging but the product must meet the expected quality which this failed to do. It's a shame really because Tesco do try to create new dishes and while most of the concept behind this was good, the product was well below expectations.
Pastry thick and stodgy - threw most of it in the bin, meat chewy and not enough gravy. Very disappointing.
Nothing `Finest' about this empty pie!
If I could give this 0/5, I would do. The flavour of the filling was good but, contrary to picture on the box, the pie contained barely any meat and gravy. Massively disappointing.
