Vinification Details

  • The grapes were harvested at 22-23 balling sugar with about 3-6 hours of skin contact. After settling, the wine was fermented at 16 degree Celsius in Stainless steel tanks. Wines was racked from fermentation lees and treated with bentonite before cold stabilization. All actions prior to filling was done with utmost care to avoid any form of oxidation.

  • The Stellenbosch winelands are considered to be the capital of the South African wine industry. Simon van der Stel arrived at the Cape as commander in 1679 and soon after was appointed its first governor. Later that year he undertook his first tour of inspection, which brought him to ‘the most charming valley he had ever seen' - the Stellenbosch winelands. He ordered the planting of the oaks, which is why it is sometimes referred to as Eikestad, or ‘town of oaks'

Lush and delicious - a great price point

4 stars

Lush, soft Sauvignon fronted by a subtle hint of pineapple together with that lovely nuance of tart gooseberry - reminiscent of a New Zealand Marlborough, which I seek out in my Sauvignons. It has pleasing exotic fruit that provides a roundness and depth. Less acidic and harsh than other Sauvignons, which I find too steely, thin and lacking flavour, some are like pear drops or paint stripper which I find extremely unpleasant and just cant get along with. Each to their own - this one is an ideal Summer wine, great to drink on its own as well as with food. A credible example at this price. Well done to Tesco!

A lovely wine!

A big step up from the Tesco Finest Fair Trade Breede River Sauvignon Blanc, which is by the same winemaker but a different wine growing area. Worth the extra couple of quid.

If you like a Sauvignon Blanc this is Brilliant

Visited this vineyard in 2015 when visiting friends. Spotted the bottle on the shelf in Tesco Gt Harwood a few weeks ago. Happy Days John T
