Preparation and Usage
You will need
For the gingerbread: 100g golden syrup and 65g dairy free spread (or unsalted butter)
For the icing: 20ml (1tbsp + 1tsp) cold water
1.Preheat the oven to 180°C /160°C fan/Gas mark 4 and grease and line 2 baking trays (approximately 25cm x 35cm)
2.Carefully unfold the box and place a sheet of greaseproof paper over the star template that is on the inside of the box. Trace around the star, including slot A and cut out to use as a stencil. Repeat with another sheet of greaseproof paper, this time with slot B.
3.Melt the golden syrup and dairy free spread (or unsalted butter) together in the microwave for 30-40 seconds (800W). Alternatively, melt in a pan over a medium heat until the butter has melted and the mixture starts to bubble.
4.Pour the melted mixture into the gingerbread mix and stir together. Once the ingredients are combined, use your hands to knead the dough into a soft ball.
5.Roll out the gingerbread in between two sheets of clingfilm to approximately 5mm thick. Remove the top layer of clingfilm, place star A over the gingerbread and cut around. Repeat with the remaining dough and cut out star B.
6.Place the gingerbread stars onto the baking trays and bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes. Once baked, make sure the slots are the right size and if not, trim any excess off while still warm. Leave on the trays to cool.
7.Carefully open the icing sachet (this will become the piping bag). Empty the icing sugar into a bowl and stir in the water. Once the icing is smooth, pour into the empty sachet, cutting a small hole in one corner of the sachet.
8.Gently slot together the stars and place on a cake board or plate. Secure with a generous blob of icing at the bottom of each point of the star. Use the remaining icing and sprinkles to decorate your gingerbread star.
Tip - With any remaining gingerbread dough, why not make some small gingerbread biscuits in a shape of your choice? (cooking times may vary).
