Description

Lincolnshire Sausages in a Beef Collagen Casing in an Onion Gravy with Potato, Carrot, Swede and Parsnip MashOur promiseOur sausage & mash is:Source of protein1 of your 5-a-dayAnd we're constantly reviewing the fat, sugar and salt levels in all our Weight Watchers® Foods.Origin of the dishAlso known as Bangers and Mash, this pub grub favourite is believed to have got its name from World War II when the moisture within the sausages popped when being cooked. These days this dish is a weekly favourite in the most households with sausages coming in different flavours, shapes and sizes.Provenance of Key ingredientsWe have used a Lincolnshire Sausage within this dish which is characterised by its chunky texture and distinctive flavour. The flavour comes from the addition of sage within the sausage which is a match made in heaven with the sweet onion gravy in this dish. What makes this a Smart Choice? As a twist to the classic buttery mashed potato that is sometimes off limits we have used a vegetable mash by using parsnip, carrot and swede that is not only tasty but helps make this dish 1 of your 5 a day. We have also made sure to use single cream rather than double cream to help reduce those fat levels.Message from our chef"Sausage and Mash is often seen as a mid week indulgent meal that can be a tricky option for those managing their weight. Whether it's fatty sausages or butter in mashed potato there is normally something that can make it off limits. This is why I wanted to create a dish that fulfilled that role but without the heavy calories. I love the vegetable mash as it is something a bit different and rich onion gravy complements the Lincolnshire sausages perfectly."Tom Wilcox
