Description

Amarone della Valpolicella is still made today in the traditional artisanal method, which requires naturally-drying the bunches for a few months. The wine is then matured for a long time. A very intense wine, it releases rich aromas of ripe cherry and wild red berry, concluding on a note of luscious chocolate.

Vinification Details

In general, Valpolicella enjoys a continental or subcontinental climate. Val d'Illasi, within this context, appears like a lengthy channel connecting Monti Lessini to the Po River plain, and thus it is well-ventilated and cool, with significant day-night temperature differentials. These particular weather conditions favour sugar and anthocyanin accumulation in the berries during ripening, as well as preservation of acidities, a fundamental requirement for ensuring longevity in wine.

Regional Information

The Valpolicella growing area extends north-northeast of Verona, an extensive hilly zone at the foot of the Verona Pre-Alps, which are part of the Eastern Alps complex. Valpolicella is a fan-shaped system of valleys-oriented north-south extending outwards from the city of Verona, from Val d'Adige to the west to Val d'Alpone to the east. The geology and climate are diverse, factors that influence the notable originality and distinctiveness that mark the wines that grow here.
