Description

MerlotThese wines are the result of Viña Errázuriz's exploration of the Aconcagua Valley, seeking the best and purest expression of each variety. Wines that show their true sense of origin. Two geographical landmarks make up this line: Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, and the Pacific Ocean, with the coldest waters in the world.Hand-harvested then whole-berry fermented to emphasise the ripe fruit. A portion was aged in French and American barrels. Full-bodied with rich, soft fruit and smooth tannins. Serve with meats, pizzas and pastas or enjoy on its own.
Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870 in the Aconcagua Valley. This family owned winery continues to create exciting wines searching for the perfect combination of soil, climate and variety.

This Chilean Merlot has aromas of fresh red fruits and roasted coffee with herbal and pastries notes coming from the gentle oak ageing the wine undergoes. With flavours of vanilla, chocolate, cherries and plums, it is smooth and juicy red wine, a brilliant example of Merlot from Chile.

Vinification Details

The grapes were harvested in early April and taken to the winery. ¾ of the wine was aged in oak barrels for 6 months to soften out the tannins and give a gentle smooth finish to this juicy Chilean Merlot.

History

Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded Viña Errázuriz in 1870 when he planted the first French grape varieties in Chile's Aconcagua Valley. His initiative, creativity and belief that the best wines come from the best land has been passed down through subsequent generations and today Viña Errázuriz remains family owned by the Chadwick family. Working hand in hand with nature, the family and winemaking teams are constantly striving to produce great Chilean wines, produced in a sustainable, responsible way.

Regional Information

Our Merlot comes from vineyards in the Maipo and Aconcagua Valleys. The Maipo Valley is known for its cool morning breezes that blow down from the Andes Mountains and the moderate daytime temperatures that allow the grapes to reach the perfect level of ripeness while preserving their acidity and freshness. The Aconcagua Valley, close to the Pacific Ocean, has warm summer days and fresh evening breezes which encourage intense colours and ripe flavours in the Merlot grapes.
