This silky smooth Rioja Reserva was awarded four stars by Decanter magazine - Made with old vine Tempranillo fruit, the wine was aged for a year in oak and a further two years in bottle.

This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 5 years
Awarded 4 stars in Decanter magazine, this is a smooth Rioja Reserva from an excellent vintage. It was made using old vine Tempranillo fruit then aged 12 months in small oak barrels and a further 24 months in bottle to create a lovely silky smooth taste.
Bodegas Palacio is a centenary winery located in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa. It was founded in 1894 by Don Cosme Palacio and has a whole timeline of wines like The Glorioso, which dates back to 1928.
Roberto Rodriguez
Rioja Alavesa is situated to the west of Logrono, on the north of the river Ebro. The climate is influenced by the Atlantic and is comparatively cooler than the rest of Rioja, producing more elegant wines. This is of classic style and a true example of why the locals take such pride in their wine.

I thoroughly enjoy a glass of red wine with my evening meal but as the title suggests could not I suspect tell a £1000 bottle from that which I pay about £6. I genuinely try to 'Taste' the differences but unless a wine tastes really awful the reds I get from Tesco (normally Rioja and not more than £6.50 a bottle) are very acceptable to my limited tastes.

I found this a little too acidic. It has a nice body and flavours but a very slight after taste. Enjoyed the case enough but will stick to my boring French certainties.

You can’t win ‘em all, even when this came free to me in a case as a competition prize. And then flying in the face of a Decanter award too! I’m confounded as to why leaving this in storage in cask and bottle since 2007 has any worth other than to artificially hike its price. OK I’m not Tempranillo’s biggest fan, give me Garnacha instead from Spain any day, but I do occasionally enjoy a Rioja. This one isn’t THAT bad but it’s just not the best, not even good-enough, actually it’s dull, it’s not cheap either at £15 a go, it’s 6 years old already and unlikely to improve. I'll be looking elsewhere then.

Very pleasant wine for supper during week - not quite good enough for a special dinner party but well worth its money

I love good Riojas that are within my price bracket and this one is as good as they get -smooth and slides down a treat. Give me more!

This wine has great Rioja taste without being too oaky. At the price this is an exceptional wine that everyone enjoys. Buy it while you can

Several purchases of this Rioja have not disappointed. Earthy and dark with powerful oak finish is great with any strong flavoured foods and cheeses.

Fairly light. Little fruit. Slight oak. No sharpness. Very easy to drink! Had several cases. Will definitely buy more when on offer.

We have had several cases of the 2007 and have not yet been disappointed. We drink this with dinner most evenings and enjoy the rich plummy taste.

Excellent modern Rioja with robust dark berry flavours and well-integrated oak. This is good at the regular price (c. £15), but outstanding value at the offer price, snap it up while you can.

I am very disappointed with this purchase. I am familiar with Riojas and was looking forward to a deep Rioja taste but alas no Rioja aroma or taste of Rioja was found.

A great wine at the price and I would buy it again. I bought this as the main course wine to go with a lamb tagine. Fourteen people drank it and all enjoyed. Masses of fruit with soft tannins and a moderately long finish. Good on its own, too. It was a real hit.

Good colour with soft tanins and a hint of vanilla from the oak. Not a great Rioja by any means but a pleasant enough drink.

This is one of the best Rioja wines we have had I think the 1996 was a little better than the 1997

A full flavoured wine which would also go with any red meat, pasta dishes or cheese.

We regularly drink Rioja but had not previously tried this - we did so after reading an email from a Tesco buyer recomending this. We purchased a box for Christmas during an offer period but quickly had to replenish our stocks for Christmas and were happy to do so even though the full offer had finished. Wnd excellent wine for anyone who enjoys a good rioja

One of the best mid-priced Rioja's I've had from Tesco. Inviting colour and bouquet did not disappoint in the tasting. You could swig a bottle of this down very easily, tannin well controlled, not overly fruity in that light taste sense but deeper tones of dark fruits. Recommended.

This is entirely Tempranillo grape whereas I usually prefer a blend. But it is smooth, drinkable and although it tastes as though it has reached its best it is good to drink at the moment.

Received the 2007 vintage, not the 2006 as advertised. The 2006 is excellent but I don't think the 2007 is as good.

Not to my taste. I spent some time working in Spain and had hoped for this wine to offer more, but I thought it was strong, harsh, dull, woody, and lacking high notes of flavour. I wouldn't buy again.

"Just like being in Spain" were the words a friend of ours used when he tasted this wine. It is smooth to the palate with plenty of depth but without any overwhelming earthiness. If you are wondering whether to try this for yourself, don't hesitate for a moment. The price tag (especially when it's on special offer) makes it excellent value for money.
