Vinification Details

Grapes are picked at optimum flavour maturity before being lightly crushed to release the juice. The Pinot Grigio is then blended with 5% of Merlot. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures (17-18°C) to preserve freshness and purity of fruit flavours. Once the wine has finished fermentation it is filtered and prepared for bottling.

History

Located in the Veneto region 30 km north-east of Venice, Botter was founded in 1928 by Carlo Botter. Over the years the company has developed from a local into an international export business while still being run by the Botter family. It is currently dealing with companies in over forty countries world-wide, from Scandinavia to South America. Although the company is primarily involved in bottling wine produced on various estates in the Veneto and in the other well-known Italian wine regions, the Botter family continues to make wines from its own vineyards: La di Motte estate in Veneto and Friuli . The family is deeply involved in making high quality wines with the help of skilled wine makers.

Regional Information

Sicily’s Vineyards cover 164,500 hectares of which registered DOC plots total 21,000 hectares (Fifth).Annual wine production of 11,000,000 hectolitres (Second to Apulia) includes 1.5 per cent or 277,000 hectolitre DOC (Eleventh), of which more than 95 per cent is white. Sicily, the largest Mediterranean island, has more vineyards for wine than any other region. Production in recent years has reached awesome levels - frequently the greatest in volume among the regions. The region's wine production has been gradually reduced as new emphasis has been given to premium quality. Sicily has taken the lead in winemaking in the modern south as producers seem increasingly determined to live up to the promise that was so well known to the ancient Greeks.
