Background

History

Located in the Veneto region 30 km north-east of Venice, Botter was founded in 1928 by Carlo Botter. Over the years the company has developed from a local into an international export business while still being run by the Botter family. It is currently dealing with companies in over forty countries world-wide, from Scandinavia to South America. Although the company is primarily involved in bottling wine produced on various estates in the Veneto and in the other well-known Italian wine regions, the Botter family continues to make wines from its own vineyards: La di Motte estate in Veneto and Friuli . The family is deeply involved in making high quality wines with the help of skilled wine makers. Botter’s range includes the classic wines from Veneto concentrating on single varietals such as, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, and from Puglia; Primitivo, Aglianico and Negroamaro. The company also produces wines from different Italian regions, especially from Abruzz

Regional info

Puglia spans Italy's long stiletto "heel" and rivals Sicily for being the largest producer of Italian wine. In fact, this 360 kilometre region produces almost twice as much wine as all of Australia. Puglia is mostly a plain but the mountainous Gargano Peninsula breaks through its low coast to the north. There are mountains in the north central part of the region. Industry has expanded rapidly in the 20th century but farming still represents the main occupation in the region. Regional products include olives, grapes, cereals, almonds, figs, tobacco and livestock, including sheep, pigs, cattle and goats. Manufacturing includes refined petroleum, chemicals, cement, iron, steel, processed food, plastics and wine. The fishing industry is active in the Adriatic and in the Gulf of Taranto.

Pink and perfect for summer (when it gets here!)

Bought this wine on offer and not disappointed with quality! Tastes just like it should. Will be a lovely summer drink so hope the offer is made again! I usually only buy wine when it is on an offer - this wine would be worth paying full price if I had to!

A quality wine from Ogio

Ogio Zinfandel is quite expensive compared to some other brands but you can tell the difference. A quite dry but light wine and you can readily taste the fruit flavours. Goes well with chicken and fish. In fact a good all rounder and decent value when Tesco have it on offer at 50% off.

A great tasting wine, one of the few rose's that are 'off dry' thus making them equally easy to drink on their own or with food. Always top of my shopping list.

Discovered this gem about a year ago now and never tire of it. It is so refreshing and sweet. Tend to only drink zinfandel and have tried many, this is my favourite by far.

Too sweet for me

I have bought Ogio rose before but this time tried the Zinfandel rose as it was on offer. Unfortunately the wine is way too sweet for me especially with food - I normally like dry wines such as pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc etc. Unfortunately I only found out recently it was possible to return wines you didn't like! In future I'll stick to the regular Ogio Rose.

Lovely if you like a slightly sweeter Rose

I forget how I found out about Ogio. Originally I bought the Rose but by accident ordered the Zinfandel Rose. It is slightly sweeter and I now order it by the case. I give a lot of wine away to friends or people who do some work for me, like my electrician. (Always look afte the people that do work for you.) I've been ordering from Tesco Wine by the case for a while, and have some delivered to friends. Its a good way to have someting in if you unexpectedly want to to give a gift.
