Whatever the weather, it is certainly the time to stock up on party sparklers and this case offer on one of the best cavas around is worth a look. At the top end of the Freixenet range and made from a blend of traditional champagne and local grapes such as Macebo and Paradella, it is packed full of peachy, toasty, nutty flavours. Great for any gathering but elegant enough for an aperitif with canapes.
Based in Catalonia, northeast Spain, and founded in the 19th century, Freixenet remains a family business. With winery estates worldwide, Freixenet has grown to become one of the world's leading producers of both still and sparkling wine. Penedès in Catalonia is the largest and most important sparkling wine region. It is split into 3 zones ranging in altitude from 250m to 800m above sea level, each with a distinct climate.
The Chardonnay and traditional varieties Macabeo and Parellada are cultivated in the Freixenet family vineyard "La Freixeneda" in Sant Quinti de Mediona, on chalky soil. The Pinot Nor grapes are grown at the Mas Bernich vineyard at Masquefa in the High Penedès, on sandy-clay soil.
