Refined and crisp with floral nuances, this wine has pleasing fruity aromas and subtle notes of toasted bread, flavours of strawberry and apricot, with a fresh and lively acidity.

This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to Label
Mateus Rosé’s origin dates back to 1942, when Fernando van Zeller Guedes, created and launched an entirely new concept – a wine with a strong personality and unique flavour presented in an original and innovative bottle. These elements combined and together became strong brand properties of Mateus and quickly made it known and enjoyed worldwide. A powerful brand had been born.
Mateus Rosé - Miguel Pessanha
This wine is mainly made from Baga, the most widely planted varietal in the Bairrada Region, in Portugal. Famous for high levels of acidity and tannins, when it comes to rosé, this grape variety lends a fresh acidity and a strong character to produce wines with great personality. For this particular wine, the grapes are harvested early when they have nice fresh varietal flavours, bright acidity and less developed tannins. Gentle pressing followed by a slow fermentation at low temperatures retains much of the young and fresh characteristics and leads to the production of a clean and delicate base wine. These base wines then undergo a secondary fermentation in tank at 16◦C. It is a secondary fermentation that adds the distinctive sparkle and its trademark creamy and complex finish. The final wine is cold stabilised and bottled.

We were expecting some guests, one of whom drinks "pink fizz" almost exclusively. I bought a bottle of this Mateus Sparking Brut not expecting too much at the price. I was genuinely surprised with how good a taste it has: The distinctive Mateus flavour I remember from years ago but more dry and bright. A pleasant change from cava and inexpensive champagne. I bought a case of 6 but they have all gone extolling it's virtues to family and friends. I ordered a dozen more for the festivities but unfortunately not all of them are going to make it through to Christmas, that's for sure. On special offer in wine by the case, this was really good value and a very pleasant surprise.

A little sweet for my taste and lacking a lasting flavour.
