Tasting Notes

Deep colour with violet tints.

The nose releases spicy nutmeg and cinnamon notes which blend with cedar wood and liquorice.

In the mouth it is round, rich and complex with attractive liveliness and tannins that are still present but very distinguished.

It blends aromas of blackberry jam with notes of strawberry liqueur.

Storage Instructions

This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 2 years

Background

History

A graduate in biology from Dijon University before studying oenology at Bordeaux, Bertrand became the Winemaker for Labouré-Roi in 1995. “As a child, I took my first steps in Beaujolais vineyards and they went on to shape my adolescent dreams. Initially, I modelled my wine by imitating the older, traditional produce. Later, I let my imagination roam, abandoning empirical methods and modelling the vines with the respect they deserve. I accepted my fantasies but always maintained the authentic balance of the landscape and the soil. Every year, I work hard to respect what nature entrusts to me. My vocation is to pass on this creative work, to give pleasure to all those who love great Burgundy wines and share my simple passion. Wine!”

Regional info

Gevrey Chambertin is found in the northern part of the Côte de Nuits. It is one of Burgundy's largest wine-making areas. The appellation is harvested in the villages of Gevrey and Brochon which also produce Côte de Nuits-Villages. Along with Pommard, Gevrey Chambertin is one of the world's most famous vineyards because it has the largest number of Grand Crus in all of Burgundy: Chambertin, Chambertin Clos de Bèze, Chapelle Chambertin, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères Chambertin, Griotte Chambertin, Latricières Chambertin, Mazis Chambertin and Ruchottes Chambertin. The Cluny monks started growing vines here in 640 on the village hillsides.
