Tasting Notes

White fruits and raisins from the grape followed by vanilla and toasty notes from ageing in bottle.

A fresh, fruity flavour.

This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 3 years

Expert Opinion

In the press...

Great vintage Champagne from a great Champagne house at a splash-out but not extortionate price. A wonderful, rich, fruity, classy, Pinot Noir-dominant Christmas fizz

The best Champagne

Some prefer Bollinger but I think the Old Widow is the finest NV champagne. Of course these things are always according to personal taste, but I find the biscuity, full flavour of the over 50% Pinot Noir very satisfying. Backed up by a good dash of Pinot Meunier with the rest Chardonnay, the balance always seems just right. It is this wine which makes me say that the only time I don't like drinking champagne is when I am asleep.

Excellent champagne

This wine has small bubbles often a characteristic of good champagne ( but not always ) straw coloured with a biscuit flavour and best drunk not too chilled to allow the flavour to reach a maximum.

The best

This Champagne, is consistently the best Champagne you can get pound for pound and more. I have put this up against very expensive fizz and it still comes up trumps, this is my second favourite fizz in the world, the first fave isn't sold in Tesco. Have this as a treat, it's lovely.

To each his own

A favourite champagne is very much a personal thing. There are some people who believe that the more you pay, the better it is. Pop stars and footballers spring to mind (loads of money, no taste...). I believe it's all down to what you like and I like Veuve. it's not full of bubbles, like Moet is, and it's got a distinctive yet subtle taste. Try it. You'll like it.
