After destemming and crushing, maceration took place for 10-15 days at a temperature of up to 26°C. Fermentation followed and then 10% of the wine was aged in American oak barriques and the rest in temperature controlled stainless steel for eight months.

History:

The Lava wines, launched in 2000, are the result of the cooperation between the Abruzzo producer Farnese Vini and local partners. Often called the Barolo of the south, due to its rich flavours and defined structure, this Aglianico benefits from the combination of modern technology processes and careful winemaking wisdom and embodies the best reinterpretation of thousands of years of winemaking tradition. Alberto Antonini, a famous Tuscan enologist, consults on the winemaking for these wines.

Regional Information:

The vineyards are close to the ancient volcano, Vesuvio, which, with its dramatic past eruptions has given life to a special soil type that today is the real wealth of the area, which the Lava wines take their name from. Farnese owns over 60 ha of vineyards which are situated at between 450 and 550 metres above sea level and benefit from the cool breeze blowing off the Bay of Naples.
