Syrah - Red Chilean Wine

The Syrah is made from grapes cultivated at our Buin vineyard (Quinta de Viluco) on the south bank of the Maipo River at 500 m above sea level. The limited production wine was aged in French oak for sixteen months. Blackberry, plum and red currant aromas meld seamlessly with black pepper and spice notes. Overall, it falls full and complex on the palate that finishes wonderfully smooth and long.

Vinification Details:

Spending 18 months in French oak with medium toast, of which 37% was new and the rest a maximum of two years use, giving a more mellow flavour to the wine. The soils are Riverbench in origin; alluvial and stony, poor in nutrients and highly permeable thanks to the gravelly subsoil, giving the wine a good backbone and structure. All this means that the vines produce smaller plants of frugal growth, which bear clusters of small, concentrated ripe grapes.

Marques de Casa Concha is a small range of single vineyard wines made from classic grape varieties. Winemaker Marcelo Papa chooses the most suitable location for each grape variety and also uses a variety of French oak barrels from some of the best cooperages in France to achieve an elegant and harmonious style to this austere range of wines.

Regional Information:

Edging up the Andes Mountains the vineyard for this Syrah is cool climate, giving rise to a flinty, pure Syrah. Cooling winds drift down from the Andes Mountains and ensure that the vines do not over-heat and therefore ripen too early. This vineyard is also heavily influenced by the El Nino effect - all ensuring optimum vine growth.
