'Man Catching a Duiker'
The art that features on the front of this box is taken from a linocut by Cgoma Simon, a San artist from the Kuru Art project in Botswana. Kuru Art was set up in 1990 to preserve the traditions of Bushman art and help artists achieve a sustainable living.
We have worked with our friends at the Kuru Art project for a number of years, and brought their work to London for 'Colours of the Kalahari', the first major exhibition of Bushman art ever to be held in the UK.
You can see more of their work at www.kuruart.com
We donate a percentage of our profits to help the San Bushmen of southern Africa.
The Rooibos Plant
Rooibos (which means 'red bush' in Afrikaans) grows only in South Africa's Cederberg Mountains. When harvested it is a rich green colour, and only when fermented does it turn the deep rusty red that gives the tea its name.
Rooibos is naturally caffeine free with a sweeter flavour and less than half the tannin of black tea.
Why choose our tea?
For the San
The Bushmen of southern Africa (or 'San') are the original hunter-gatherers, directly descended from the earliest humans. They were also the first people to discover the benefits of drinking tea made from rooibos.
Over the centuries, the San have struggled to preserve their way of life in an increasingly difficult world, to the point that only around 100,000 remain, mostly in impoverished conditions. Since 2001, we have raised over £100,000 to support vital projects in their communities. We believe in the value of preserving their culture, and in the opportunity for businesses to be a force for wider good.
For the taste
We only make rooibos, and our relationship with the growers means we have an exclusive blend of the top 10% of the crop. This gives our tea a richer colour and sweeter, more rounded flavour.
For good health
Rooibos is naturally free from caffeine and low in tannin. As it doesn't have the bitter aftertaste you get from black tea, it can be enjoyed with or without milk, lemon or sweeteners. Refreshing and hydrating.
