Tasting Notes

Woven in with black cherry flavours are smooth, subtle oak and spice notes.

This would be an effortlessly good match for mushroom risotto or roast lamb - but the big flavours and favourable acidity also make it a great partner for slow-roasted pork belly.

The origins of the Villa Cafaggio farm holding can be traced back to the VI century. Historical documents show that in the XV century the land was owned by Benedectine monks from Siena that started to produce oil and wine. The modernization started in 1967, when bought by the Farkas family, who replanted the vineyards and restructured the cellar.

Regional info

The Chianti Classico region is the part of Tuscany that is bordered at the north by the outskirts of Florence, at the east by the Chianti hills, at the south by the city of Siena and at the west by the valleys of the Pesa and Elsa rivers. The landscape is very varied, from severely steep to softly rounded slopes on the most delicately rolling hills. The climatic conditions of the region, of the soil and the altitude, which are unfavourable to most agricultural activities, make the Chianti area one of the most suitable regions for the production of high quality wine. In fact, the Chianti Classico territory is one of the first areas to have been recognized as a protected designation of origin area. Villa Cafaggio is situated in the “Conca d’Oro”, that particular part of Chianti Classico near Panzano that in the last 15 years has seen the production of some of the best quality Tuscan wine. The iconic black cockerel seal means that the wine has been classified as Chianti Classico, which is a sub-region of Chianti and top rung on the quality ladder. It's a stamp of approval.
