In the first series of this historical drama written and created by Peter Moffat (KAVANAGH QC, CRIMINAL JUSTICE), follow the lives of a group of residents in a small English village in Derbyshire from 1914-1920. Seen through the eyes of central character Bert Middleton, follow their lives as they strive to continue their lives faced with the First World War and all of the drama that follows in the homefront. The character of Bert is played by Bill Jones, Alfie Stewart and David Rydall at different stages of his life and portrays not only life during the war but the troubles he faces being the son of an alcoholic farmer.
