Peter Richards MW - BBC Saturday Kitchen 26/12/2015
Of the 2014 vintage, Peter Richards said: “If you’re after value for money there is simply one wine which cannot be beaten - finest* Plan de Dieu Cotes du Rhone Villages. It’s a wine with real character. A big bold red – it’s made from a blend of grape varieties. From the Rhone Valley in Southern France – it is a mini Châteauneuf du Pâpe. It smells of blackberries and savoury spice. It has an earthy quality but most importantly it is a weighty wine and can cope with a hearty dish like roast venison.”
Grown in the north of Vaucluse between Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Rasteau in the plain of Plan de Dieu. The vines are 30-50 years old, giving layers of flavour to the wine.
The vineyard is planted on chalky-clay soil.
