Vinification Details

  • Grapes are hand picked in the Quitralman vineyard. They are lightly crushed and de stemmed before gentle pressing. The resulting juice is cooled and allowed to rest for about a day or so to allow the solid matter to settle. The clarified juice is then separated and transferred to the a tank for the cool fermentation that takes about 21 days. The wine is then separated from the lees and progresses to fining and cold stabilisation to remove tartrates before fine filtration for bottling.

  • With vines planted in 1989, Quitralman is a very innovative field, pioneer in the plantation of alternative varieties such as Riesling. A very interesting vineyard is thanks to the more than 1,000 mm of rain per year, and to the fact that the water remains retained within the structure of the soil, so many of the blocks do not need irrigation.

Regional Information

  • Quitralman is located in the village of Mulchén, 550km south of Santiago, in the Bio Bio valley. Unique for its hills and terraces, the vineyard is planted in the banks of the Bio Bio river. Red clay soil directly contributes to the minerality of the wines, offering excellent and unique character to this really intense and perfumed Sauvignon Blanc. The southern latitude of the vineyard allows a slower maturity of the grapes, providing a pronounced acidity with fresh and juicy wines with great intensity.

A Great Quaffing Wine

5 stars

I'm on my 4th case of this great wine now and its not varied dramatically from the first 2013 vintage case we bought some way back. It has a crisp fresh fruity taste on the palette, with some after notes of grapefruit, which are delightful. At this price you just can't go wrong. Additionally, they now seem to have fixed the twist (or not twist) bottle top problem that meant you had to be an olympic weight lifter to open it.

Wine was good

4 stars

This wine was very good, but I had a great deal of trouble getting the bottle open. I couldn't undo the top. The bottle I got open in the end was by using a hacksaw on the top. My son in law has opened another three bottles at Christmas. I will wait to see if I can open the other two. The wine was worth it but might put me off buying this case again.

Lovely Sauvignon Blanc

5 stars

This is one of my favourite Sauvignons. It's light, fruity enough, but not too much so.

Spot on

5 stars

Sauvignon Blanc is our white wine of choice. New Zealand versions are reliable and good but expensive, French at our price level we see as erratic. Our default source has become Chile and this wine just confirms why. It is everything a good SB should be and at a reasonable price. We loved it

Excellent, Chilean Wine

5 stars

I have only recently discovered this wine, but I now look for it on the shelves all the time. It has a distinct large initial C on the label and it is one of TESCO's Finest, which I agree with, it is on a par with two other fabulous Sauvignon Blancs I also adore! At the moment it is on special offer so I have, today, stocked up, but as it is so moorish, I am sure it won't be hanging around very long, keeping cool in the refrigerator! I thoroughly recommend this wine.

Worth a try

4 stars

I have been drinking quite a lot of Sauvignon Blancs lately, very few (apart from the cheap NZ ones) are bad but many fall into that good but indistinguished catergory, this is one of them. A decent wine with fruit that comes through and a slightly bitter finish, well made and just enough difference to make it worth buying, and the offer price makes it a very good BBQ wine. Sauvignon Blanc is on a roll at the moment and anything with that grape seems to sell, but it is a lot more difficult to find something that stands out, even the more expensive NZ ones are much of muchness though good, it seems the popularity has produced a degree of blandness, back to the Loire perhaps ?

same wine, new label

4 stars

Preferred the old design, but its all about content, and that is still very good. This batch hover has problems with its crew cap, very hard to open, not every petite lady will manage.

Not as good as the 2011 vintage

4 stars

An enjoyable wine but sharper than the 2011 vintage which seems no longer to be available - a shame as it was our all time favourite Chilean Sauvignan blanc. Another disappointment is the difficulty of opening the bottle. We had to cut the metal top off which is not a very safe thing to do. Surprised that this problem has not been remedied. Would buy again but only when on very special offer.

Good refreshing white wine

4 stars

Plenty of nettle and lemon flavours - surprisingly fruit-driven for a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. Good with fish, or as a very refreshing aperitif.

Delicious, once you get inside the bottle

3 stars

Have no complaints about the quality or taste of the wine, but without exception, I had to use a wrench to open the bottles. I am sure I am not the only customer to encounter this problem with this batch. This has never happened before, and I do order quite a lot of wine from Tesco. I think this is something Tesco needs to take up with the supplier.
