1/700 Waterline Series 31911 Navy Destroyer DD412 Hammann The USS Hammann (DD-412) was a Sims class destroyer that was commissioned in 1939. In 1942, she rescued men from the stricken aircraft carrier Lexington. However, she may be best known for her final moments, in the Battle of Midway. Having rescued the crew of the badly-damaged USS Yorktown aircraft carrier, it remained alongside to assist with repairs when the ships were attacked by a Japanese I-168 submarine, the Hammann eventually taking a torpedo and sinking. The Tamiya model kit faithfully captures all the details of this historic ship. Tamiyas designers have taken great care in researching the archives to bring the avid modeler the most accurate scale model. 1/700 Waterline Series This series enriches the modeller with WWII and modern warships from navies that have taken part in the great and significant sea battles across the world. With over 100 models, the 1/700 Waterline Series represents a collaboration effort of three Japanese model manufacturers of which Tamiya is one. This is the largest of its type in the world and allows the modeller access to a huge choice of these incredible warships. As the name implies, the models represent the portion of the ship which sits above the waterline. They may be displayed on a flat surface as though they were at sea. The 1/700 series represents a sensible size without compromising Tamiya detail. Instructions are clear and concise, which allows the modeller to build a model with relative ease. Paint and the required modelling glue for these kits is available separately.
