The techy stuff, explained

Screen Resolutions

Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) The display will be super-sharp, and you’ll get the full benefit of the detail found on HD TV shows, movies and video games.

Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) Provides even sharper images than Full HD. Tablets have fairly small screens, however, so the full benefit will often be difficult to notice.

Processor Speeds

Quad Core Although single-core processors are fine for basic tasks like browsing, emailing and some gaming, quad-core processors have the speed you need for things like photo editing, design work and 3D gaming.

Dual CoreDual-core processors are powerful enough to handle multi-tasking and rapid navigation, and also allow for smooth streaming from the web.

Wireless Connections

Single band is fine for streaming music and movies, if you have a decent Wi-Fi connection (up to 2.4 Ghz).

Dual band tablets can utilise super-fast 5.0 Ghz Wi-Fi. This is a benefit if you live in a city with lots of Wi-Fi networks, which can make the lower band connection a little slow.

If you want to store lots of multimedia items, a tablet with a 16GB or more will be much better. As a rough guide, here’s how much space certain media takes up:

12 music albums = around 1 GB of storage space
A 2-hour film = around 3.6 GB on average
