Let's talk about grapes - Pinot Noir

Graham Nash

Graham Nash has been in the wine industry for over 21 years and is responsible for all our French and South African Wines.

Pinot Noir makes the world’s most sensuous, seductive and memorable wine but it’s tough being a fan of Pinot Noir. One day it tastes reticent and moody, the next compelling and magnificent. That’s Pinot Noir.

Other varieties are more reliable, but both consumers and producers persist with what Master of Wine Jancis Robinson has described as ‘a minx of a vine’, simply because great Pinot Noir is unforgettable.

Burgundy – Pinot Noir’s home

Even in Pinot Noir’s homeland, where it is responsible for great wines, like Romanée-Conti and Chambertin, there are variations in quality. Those who experience the magic of burgundy at its best are hooked for life. It’s hard to believe that a liquid so silky and fragrant, offering haunting aromas of violets, wild berries and truffles, can be made from mere grapes.
