International Wine Challenge

Every year, producers, retailers and critics from around the world gather together to take part in the International Wine Challenge, the world's largest tasting competition. Such is its prestige and influence that it's known as the 'Wine Oscars'. This year, the jury blind tasted approximately 9,000 wines from 35 countries.

Each is judged solely on its merit, so wines from the top Chateaux go head-to-head with those from individual winemakers. Neither reputation, nor money, is allowed to cloud anyone's judgement. During the first week of the Challenge, one question dominates: Is this wine worth an award? If so, it goes through to the second round. Judging is scrupulously fair, even those wines rejected at this stage are double-checked to make sure that nothing has been overlooked.

In the second week, it's down to business. Those wines that have made the grade are given a 'Seal of Approval', and then the medals are awarded from bronze through silver to gold. A tiny number of medal winners are considered worthy of special praise and receive a Trophy for being the best in their field. All the wines are judged on quality and style, their price is irrelevant.

This year the Tesco range has had its best results ever, winning 222 medals and seven trophies – a trophy is awarded to the best wine in its category. We are delighted to offer these two mixed case selections of six white and six red medal winners, to give you a chance to taste some of the wines that so excited the IWC judges.
