What our expert says
Barolo has long been famed as ‘the King of wines, and the wine of Kings’ and is considered by many to be the greatest of all Italian wines. I’m particularly pleased to have tracked down this superb example – it’s absolutely delicious and amazing value. This exquisite Barolo was produced by wine-maker Gaetane Carron in the heart of Piedmont in north west Italy. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it is a classic, rich Barolo with elegant aromas of plums and raisins, leading to delicious flavours of plum fruit and dark cherries. The 2004 vintage in Piedmont was excellent and the wine is now drinking superbly, although it can be tucked away for a few years if preferred. Barolo is the perfect accompaniment to rich Christmas food and mature cheeses.
