A perfumed, richly flavoured wine with blackberry and plum flavours with lighter notes of blueberry and a dry, yet fruity finish.

This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 1 year
Hamish Anderson - Daily Telegraph Magazine 23/03/2013Of the 2011 vintage, Hamish Anderson said: "Tesco has got in the Malbec king Nicola Catena to produce this beauty for them. It sits at the lighter end of the spectrum for what can be a bruising variety, so this is all fresh blackberries, plum and scented fragrance. Ideal for a classic roast and all the trimmings."
Nicolas Catena was the third generation of his family to make wine in Mendoza but the first to see the potential in planting higher and higher vineyards in search of cool climate sites ideal for the production of fine wine. Today, over a decade on from the first Catena Malbec in 1994, he works with his daughter Laura (who improbably juggles her work as an ER surgeon in San Francisco with the family business) in their relentless pursuit of the finest possible quality wines from their unique vineyard sites.
Felipe Stahlschmidt
The Mendoza Province is one of Argentina's most important wine regions, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the country's entire wine production. Located in the eastern foothills of the Andes, in the shadow of Mount Aconcagua, vineyards are planted at the some of the highest altitudes in the world with the average site located 1,970–3,610 feet (600–1,100 meters) above sea level. Mendoza is considered the heart of the winemaking industry in Argentina.

This is the second time I've purchased this wine and have been more than happy with it on both occasions and worth the £6 a bottle I paid, but probably no more. Drinkable with most food where a red is called for or on it's own.

Dark crimson appearance leads to whiffs of choc-blackberry fruit which fleshes out a rather robust but enticing cedary nose. Lingering pleasant aftertaste leaves a well intergrated wine. Excellent value especially when on special. Will work splendidly with any Roast, Cheese Board or on its own.

This Malbec from Catena beats many others hands down. Latest 2012 vintage understandably doesn't match the previous one (2009). But still good value and one of our favourites. Guests like it too.

Extremely satisfying example of the Argentinian malbec, although not quite up to the "reservas". Soft, rounded and full of flavour. Ideal with beef casserole cooked with prunes and apricots. This is a must for an every day drinking cellar. I'm already looking forward to my next case.

Just what what you expect from Malbec: a strong dark wine to drink with stews etc.

We are regular buyers of this wine and in fact like it so much that we have bought it for our wedding wine when we get married in Sept. I'm a Malbec fan anyway but find this one particularly smooth and drinkable and not too heavy. Lovely with red meats etc but also good for drinking on its own. Very reasonably priced and tastes like a much more expensive wine in my opinion.

We had 3 bottles of this in our mystery red wine box & really enjoyed the first bottle. Deep, tastey, silky smooth. As we keep bottles in an unheated room & it was freezing outside, we balanced the bottle sideways on a radiator to warm it. Just right for this wine. Look forward to enjoying the next 2 bottles & then will have to treat ourselves to a box of 6. Yum!!

I bought this wine when it was on promotion and find it is now my absolute favourite wine. I drink it with everything - chicken, pork, beef, spicy food or mostly even on its own. It is smooth and full of delicious warm flavours. For anyone who like a good Malbec or smooth red wine I suggest you buy lots!

Im no wine expert but I was introduced to a Malbec in 2011 and have been a fan of it since. This particular blend lived up to my expectations anid is a welcome change to a Shiraz or Merlot.. Recommended

We both love this wine. It has a superb flavour, smoothness, body and aftertaste. We drink it with just about everything, and its smooth enough to drink by itself socially.
