Background

History

The story behind one of Chile’s most famous wines began more than 120 years ago. Don Melchor, founder of Concha y Toro, stored batches of his best wines in an underground cellar. When he noticed that bottles had been stolen, he spread a rumour amongst the locals that a devil lived in his cellar. Hence the name of Casillero del Diablo, the devil’s cellar. Since 2008, Diablo wines have received more than 80 awards from internationally recognised competitions, including 8 Gold medals and 18 Silver medals.

I've never had a bad bottle of this wine. It's a full-flavoured drop, plenty of body. Consistently excellent.

Better the Devil you know!

This little devil turns up regularly and is very drinkable. Have had better from this 'stable' this one was reliable which must not be dismissed lightly but I was hoping for a little more surprise ... of the pleasant variety. At the reduced offer price it is good value and deserving the 3 stars.

Great value wine which is very drinkable! No heavy tannins which in my case means I can drink more. Eeek! There's no sweetness to this wine despite the fruity flavours. Recommended.

This was awful. I couldn't even finish the first glass. Not a good buy at any price.

Dad likes good bodied wine. He loves flavoured meals and this compliments his taste buds. Also it's good value for money. Over Christmas this was the wine of choice. Not many bottles left now.

A long-time favourite - full of meaty black fruits. Blackcurrant, leather, hint of violets. Ideal with beef, lamb and a host of other dishes, but I am a Chilean wine buff.

Casillero del Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon is a truly terrific wine. Full of berry fruitiness, it is a joy on the palate and a very affordable price. Great on on its own or with red meats... Try it!

A reliable wine from a bigger brand.

This review is for the 2011 vintage

I find Cassilero Del Diablo wines offer a consistently good quality for a bigger brand wine, you can pick up the Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot knowing exactly what to expect and the are flavours are true to the grape in question. I'd say the style of the brand is generally fuller-flavoured and this Cabernet is rather full bodied to boot. Dark fruit flavours with a hint of liquorice or aniseed and Chocolate, this would realy suit beef or lamb in a rich old fashioned jus / gravy. Buy this when there nothing else floating your boat, always good value when on offer at £5.

THis is a brand we've bought for good value and, although this was cheap,it almost makes it.A bit of a dry and slightly tannin-like after-taste shows it's not been made from the best grapes and possibly needs to stand for an hour before drinking. Not bad.
