This Nederburg Auction wine is hand-picked, hand-crafted and aged for 18 months in small new French oak barrels, this is a lush, rich Merlot bursting with succulent berry, coffee and spice flavours.
This very classy wine is drinking superbly.
This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 10 + years
Nederburg was founded in 1791 by Phillipus Wolvaart. In 1937, Johann Graue took over and established Nederburg as the leading producer of quality South African wines. In 1956, Günther Brözel became a winemaker and was the 1st South African winner of the International Wine & Spirits Competition Winemaker of the Year Award. His talent contributed to Nederburg claiming more awards than any other South African wine producer.
Nederburg is from the district of Paarl, which is just north of Stellenbosch in the Coastal Region. The Coastal Region is South Africa’s heartland of the production of fine wines. The climate is Mediterranean in character and well suited for wine production of wine being with influences of almost constant sunshine and the cooling effect of the Benguela current. The unirrigated soils of Nederburg's vineyards in Paarl are of granite and sandstone, which provide excellent, well draining terrain.

Deep, rich, velvety and luscious. I was able to visit the vineyard in 2010, but this is still a favourite and not just based on holiday memories. A real treat.
