Picpoul grapes from south-west France give a wonderful elegance to this fresh, bright wine- The perfect accompaniment to mussels in white wine and garlic.

To enjoy this wine at its best, drink within 1 year of purchase.
Victoria Moore - The Daily Telegraph 15/09/2012Of the 2011 vintage, Victoria Moore said: "Picpoul is the thinking person's answer to pinot grigio. It's also gathering recruits from the ranks of those who find sauvignon blanc too insistent and monotonous. Refreshing, dry and unoaked, surprisingly pert for a white from the south of France, and a tiny bit saline and steely. Bit of a bargain at the knock-down price too."
Founded in 1932, the Pomerols cooperative winery strives to expand, improve and modernize, with the goal of producing fine quality wines reflecting the typicity of their origin. Pomerols cellar groups together the winegrowing areas of Pomerols, Castelnau de guers and Mèze. Presently it vinifies 117,000 hl, of which 18,000 hl is of AOC Picpoul de Pinet and 60,000 hl of varietals. The cellar yields a turnover of 12 millions euros and employs 20 people.
Jean Luc LAVERGNE
The picpoul grapes were grown in the vineyards surrounding the village of Pinet in the stunning Languedoc region of Southern France. A wine enjoyed in seafood restaurants along the Mediterranean coast.

Plainly I'm losing my marbles cos I thought I'd reviewed this before.....along with two reds I forgot about as well. I mean, if we are enjoying them then why not say so! I stopped off for a night in the Languedoc last September whilst heading back north, and bought a case, not this exact wine of course, at the local Intermarche. 6 bottles for €13. OK, so I'm having to pay three times the cost over here to have it, but I think it's worth it even at the higher price. It's a quality wine with individual characteristics and an unusual grape that is not the usual supects from NZ, Oz or Chile. Nevertheless, most refreshing and enjoyable all round. France Rules Too and pleased it does!

Discovered Picpoul when we were in Southern France some years ago. Lovely fresh clean taste and always snap it up when it is a good price.

I was very pleasantly suprised by this wine. It is light yet substantial. An excellently refreshing drink served over crushed ice.

This wine is dry and fresh and it is a great companion for fish, crustacea, and molluscs. An excellent drink with raw oysters and spicy sausage. Don't overchill this contemporary screw-cap bottle to get the best from the wine. It doesn't improve with being opened and, if anything, it loses a little something with keeping opened in the refrigerator. It should be drunk while it is still young so not suitable for laying down. It's good value even at its full price, with the recent discounting in the French wine festival, when it was about 60% of this, it was another of Tesco's bargains of the year.

I'm looking forward to the Summer as this wine is deliciously reviving when you get home and want to relax. It has a crisp clear feel in the mouth, and that cool hand on the brow feel. As the perfect partner for Oysters it is steely, with citrus notes and a long good finish. It's also a great partner to all kinds of seafood and fish, as well as a perfect pre-lunch/dinner drink, as it is a stirring appetitive Always have a chilled bottle ready - it disappears fast!

Having found Sauvignon Blanc too sharp and citrussy I tried this delightful wine from the south of France. Its can be drunk by itself or with white fish and pasta. It is harder to find but note that Cafe Rouge sells it by the glass! Give it a go if you love French Sauvignon.

This is a good example of the Picpoul grape. Light summery and excellent with shell fish and fish but can hold its own with highly spiced asian food as well.

I've read so many glowing reviews for this wine I had to try it . Although I would readily agree that one's own personal sense of taste is such a large part of the individual appreciation,I'm now on my fifth bottle and I'm still failing to see why it is so highly praised. Occasionally I've thought that maybe I was beginning to sense its appeal---but not often enough to feel inclined to buy it again.

This wine from the south of France is great. It has a lovely edge to it - henc e the name "lip stinger". The Tesco version of it is the best I have had in this country. My wife and I first came across it in France seven years ago and love to share a bottle over dinner. It goes well with fish and chicken but can also stand up well to spicy flavours. I long for the day when Tesco will put it back on a special deal so that I can buy even more.

Not one of your 'every day' grape varietal but well worth a try and good value for money too!. I think this is one of Langadoc's hidden secrets. Quite drinkable as an aperitf but I really enjoyed mine with good old English traditional Fish, Chips and Mushy Peas.

Chose this wine on a whim after having tried Picpoul at a fancy restaurant. My wife and I really enjoyed this with roast chicken on Sunday. The sharpness and fruitiness contrasted well with the buttery sweetness of the chicken. I'll definitely buy it again

Seve well chilled, although it changes as it warms up. Initially it’s very dry, refreshing with lemons dominating with a little crisp apple but extremely Zesty almost tongue tingling but as it warms up the zestiness subsides but in a good way leaving that fresh lemony ever so slightly oily taste . If you need an alternative to Sauvignon Blanc try this, you won’t be disappointed and at around £7 a bottle you can’t go wrong.

Superb wine in my view. Originally picked up a bottle as part of a 'Drink outside the box' case. Quickly re-oredered some more. Lovely fruity but dry white wine and I don't particularly favour french as a rule.

I think given the cost of this wine it is terrific. Always been a fan of Picpoul and this didn't disappoint. Not very well known - I guess the price will go up when everyone cottons on to this one.

Tastest Picpoul at a dinner and have been trying to source it ever since. My perfect white wine - crisp, dry with a hint of citrus. Buy it!

I bought this on the strength of other reviews and because I like to try new wines. It's perfectly drinkable and not unpleasant but equally it's entirely forgettable and I won't be buying it again. Tesco have many nicer wines than this.

If you like a really dry wine without Chardonnay honey overtones, this is the one to try. There's a gooseberry freshness and a sense of substance which is nevertheless light enough to go with more delicate foods. Great with salads in summer and with chicken or fish all year round.

I feel that this doesn't have the freshness and finish of the wine I sampled a year ago. It should have a slight saltiness to the finish and lots of depth whilst being dry. This wine was disappointingly acidic!!.I'm wondering whether to return the two cases I bought. Was this why it was on special offer? the wine should be drunk young.

Languedoc churns out some weird and wonderful stuff. I can't handle this. Herby, spicy, resiny, aniseedy and perhaps a few nuts. I hate curry and I don't like this one iota. Others love it but it is not for easy-swiggers.

I tried this wine out of curiousity. This is an absolute blinder of a wine and Tesco have unearthed an absolute gem. Not as mineraly as a French Sauvignon Blanc, more rounder, slightly oilier. Fabulous stuff. Highly recommended.

A perfect example of Picpoul, with a salty astringency that goes brilliantly with fish dishes and other provencal delights. Grown close to the sea and just above the salt water lagoons that make up a fair sweep of the coast between Picpoul and Marseille, this has a clean refreshing finish not unlike a better quality Muscadet. Perfect summer drinking and an ideal partner for red mullet or other mediterraenean fish

I was first introduced to Picpoul de P by the Swiss sommelier of one of our finest country house hotels over 25 years ago, and have enjoyed it immensely ever since as an aperitif or as the perfect accompaniment to good fish simply cooked. This year in a fish restaurant in Etaples the waiter recommended it to accompany our dinner! This is a very good example of P de P which is now becoming well known in the UK. It is good value for money.

This really did bring memories of holidays in the Languedoc where it was, until the fairly recent past, the only place you could buy this. So fantastic to be able to buy such a good quality wine in this country now - especially at the special offer price! (A really good light dry wine).

Being in the restaurant trade myself I am always shocked and surprised that wines from the Languedoc, in my view the most innovative of French wine-producing regions, do not feature more often on restaurant wine lists. This is starting to change (but not in Paris or France generally) and Picpoul can be seen on many of the better and more "creative" lists. I have never tasted a disappointing Picpoul and I can't say the same about other French white wines such as Chablis, Sancerre etc, these being the wines that restaurants seem to regard as being sacrosanct for their wine lists. Also Picpoul is significantly less expensive than wines from the "classic areas". Tesco's Finest Picpoul has proved to be of the same excellent quality as other Picpouls I have tried.

This was a new wine to us, but has a good depth of flavour and goes very well with fish and seafood. It is reminsicent of more highly priced French wines. Try it and see for yourself.

This 12.5% ABV has greatly risen in popular appreciation over the last ten years. Produced in the Languedoc region of the south-west of France, it sets a high standard as an ideal accompaniment for seafood, whatever the weather. Delightful as an aperitif, reassuring as a companion at lunch or dinner; remember the grape [the Picpoul] and be confident in recommending it when the need is for a crisp, lively, tasty partner to grilled fish, crab dishes or [in a perfect world] a seafood platter. Cheers.
