The Quinta do Bomfim follows the classic Dow style, smooth and deeply flavoured, with an intense nose of spices, violets and red fruits.
On the palate, tannins balance the fruit giving a firm structure, and with a long complex finish.
This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 10 years
Grapes are only sourced from two vineyards - Bomfim and Senhora da Ribeira. These vineyards were acquired by the company in 1896 and 1890 respectively. Dow’s is owned and managed by the fourth generation of the Symington family, Port producers since the 19th Century. The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine.
Charles Symington
Douro is a Portuguese wine region centered around the Douro River in the Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro region. It is sometimes referred to as the Alto Douro (upper Douro), as it is located some distance upstream from Porto, sheltered by mountain ranges from coastal influence. It is very hot during the summer reaching temperature in excess of 40 degrees celcius in the summer perfect for the indigenious grape varieties of this region. The region has Portugal's highest wine classification as a Denominação de Origem Controlada (DOC). While the region is associated primarily with Port wine production (fortified wine), the Douro also produces table wine (non-fortified wines).
