A rich, mature flavour with raspberry and exotic spice.
A long, complex finish

This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 3 years
Victoria Moore - The Daily Telegraph 08/12/2012Of the 2004 vintage, Victoria Moore said: “All the molten strawberries and polished wood of the Gran Reserva style for an excellent price.”
Jancis Robinson - FT Magazine 08/12/2012Of the 2004 vintage, Jancis Robinson said: “Charm incarnate in this unusually venerable example. (Only the Spaniards mature their wine this long.) Very dark crimson. Thick and sweet. Some really charming strawberry fruit and Rioja structure.”
The Wine Gang - thewinegang.com 01/01/2013Aged for two years in oak barrels, this is an approachably mature, pure Tempranillo from the reliable Baron de Ley stable in Rioja Alta, displaying attractive, sweet cherry qualities on the nose with supple-textured tannins, a raspberryish, savoury fruit juiciness and a slightly rustic, dry aftertaste.
Made especially for Tesco by Criadores
Gonzalo Rodriguez
The vines are situated in the Rioja Alta region, with a Mediterranean climate and clear Atlantic influence. The soil type in Rioja Alta is Alluvial, rich in clays and limestone.

I came across this wine by chance about a year ago. It is qute expensive but its rich fruity taste is worth it. It is good when you get the chance to buy it at a special price and I would definitely buy a case again.

Recommended by Jancis Robinson in the Financial Times just before Christmas and she was spot-on. Waited until the 25% off everything at which point for a well made mature Rioja this was outstanding. Well done Tesco

Great body, smooth and great with a sunday roast or on it's own with biscuits and cheese!

This wine has real depth with a full and blackberry-type flavour, and such a welcoming bouquet.......great value over the Xmas offer. Originally caught my eye as one of the top 10 recommended reds for 2012 by Jancis Robinson, - at the lower end of costs!

I expected a 'fruit' full wine. It was much too dry for me, very little body and lacked 'lip-smacking' fruityness. I suggest it would be popular with elderly gentlemen who like 'well-hung' game; ( i.e . someone who had jjust a few taste-buds operating.) It went well with dolcelatte cheese and a mild curry. I missed memories of a rioja that I had in Toledo one hot summer's evening. Rich, full bodied and succulent.

Once again we enjoyed this real quality Rioja which reminds us so much of the MARQUES DE CACERES and Faustino many years ago. It was not quite as good as last years stock but stll an excellent bodied wine

We were very disappointed with the mediocre taste of the wine, average at best and a lot of sediment in the bottle.

This Rioja is of the usual good quality. It is full bodied with a rich, but not too heavy aftertaste. It suits a wide range of dishes yet is subtle enough to appeal to a "novice" drinker.

I have purchased Tesco Finest Via Mara Rioja Gran Reserva many times & found it to maintain a very fine taste.Good on its own or with a sirloin,If you enjoy a tempranillo grape then I recommend you try this red.

Have been enjoying the Reserve so thought i would try the grand reserve and was disappointed. It maybe needs to be left for a while longer. Think i will go back to the reserve.
