Chocalan’s 80 hectares of vineyard are situated in a part of the Maipo Valley not previously planted with vines, between the Andes and the Coastal Mountain range. The proximity of the vineyards to the Pacific Ocean ensures that the heat of the warm days is mitigated by the cool breezes that are funnelled down the valley at night. This ensures a longer ripening period and more elegant, less jammy wines as a result.
Vineyards for this wine are located on the hillsides of the Melipilla area of Maipo Valley. They are planted on chalky, well drained soil. There are morning mists and a strong maritime influence due to the proximity to the Pacific Ocean and Maipo river. The climate is temperate Mediterranean.
