Of the 2009 vintage, Terry Kirby said: "Another great French name given the Finest* treatment and winner of the Great-Value-White-Under-£12, this Loire wine is as typical example of European Sauvignon Blanc as can be - a lovely summer bottle, excellent with prime flat white fish. Modern wine-making techniques, with stainless steel vats and no sign of oak, result in a pure, clean taste of gooesberries, grass and lemon zest and a finish that is perfectly crisp and dry."

Of the 2009 vintage, Suzy Atkins said: "Taut, tongue-tingling sauvignon with pure, crisp, minerally lemon streaked through it - very dry and made for white fish and seafood."

Background

History

Fournier are wine growers making classic Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé in their family winery. The Fournier family estate has grown from five hectares in 1950. The wines can be described as herby, gunflint-smoky, combining appealing aromas with a refreshing crispness. Finest Pouilly Fumé comes from Claude’s best vineyards, many of which are composed of old vines, making for rich and intense wines.

The vineyards of the Central Loire comprise Pouiily Fumé, Sancerre and Menetou Salon. Sauvignon Blanc is the most grown variety, with Pinot Noir being used for Red and Rose styles.
