Tasting Notes

A unique and intriguing wine with aromas and flavours of green apples with hints of honeysuckle, peaches, pears and a spiced vanilla finish.

Expert Opinion

In the press...

Turn up the richness a few notches with this exotically spiced peach and wild honey-scented beauty. I've picked it as one of my elite Cape wines of the year. The 2011 vintage that follows is a star, too - so there's even more goodness to come!

Matthew Jukes - Weekend (Daily Mail) 03/12/2011

This sophisticated white has lovely aromatic: peach, pear and coconut.  In the mouth it's generous and complex with rich fruit and some spicy oak notes.

Jamie Goode - S Magazine (Sunday Express) 11/12/2011

Of the 2010 vintage, Hamish Anderson said: “A range of wine appears under the Bernard Series, but this Rhone-inspired blend is my favourite. There is deceptive power and texture here to marry with the sticky meat, but also bright, savoury elements to counter its richness."

Hamish Anderson - Daily Telegraph 25/02/2012

This review is for the 2010 vintage

Being a big Viognier fan and having enjoyed the fantastic USA viognier, I bought a bottle of this and ended up buying another 2 cases - and will be buying more when I get some space. This is a big glass of wine and superb value even at £10.99. Do not serve this too cold, it needs some air round it and then it delivers a big mouthful of flavour and a long lasting finish - it is a lot like an expensive white burgundy and I get more of the big flavours - peach, vanilla and a slightly sweet taste - there is nothing sharp or harsh about this. Perhaps a bit lacking in the tropical fruit - pineapple - that I associate with French viognier but a great alternative to condrieu at a fraction of the price. Buy a bottle to try it and you won't be disappointed, just writing makes my taste buds tingle, I think I will go and open a bottle now!
