The area around Sancerre was likely first cultivated by the Romans, the steep sloping hills could provide the grapes with enough direct sunlight and warmth to fully ripen whilst allowing cold air to flow off the slope into the valleys below. These ideal climatic conditions have helped Sancerre gain the prestigious reputation this area enjoys today.
Sancerre is the most famous wine in the Loire Valley named after a pretty village on the edge of the Loire river. Its Sauvignon Blanc is known for its crisp acidity and elegant herbaceous, mineral character.
