Prosecco obtained Denomination of Origin Controlled (D.O.C.) status in 1969, the discipline delimits an area of production from Valdobbiadene to Conegliano. The DOC status was then extended to the Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia region, excluding the provinces of Rovigo and Verona. From 2011 governmental strips have to be applied on each bottle to certify that the wine is a Prosecco D.O.C. with more attention towards the final consumer.
