In 1551 Jaume Codorníu began making still wines in Penedès, Spain. In 1872, having studied the ‘champenoise method’ of sparkling wine production in Northern France, Josep Raventós, a descendant of Codorníu, applied the technique to the traditional Penedès grape varieties of Macabeo, Parellada & Xarel.Lo and created the first bottle of Cava. Today Codorníu is an award-winning winery with the best selling Cava brand in the UK and back home in Spain.

Codorníu has the oldest and most extensive vineyard planting of Pinot Noir in Spain and has been growing it for 25 years. Due to its delicate nature, Pinot Noir is incredibly difficult to cultivate. For this reason, Codorníu selected the most appropriate areas in Lleida where the climate allows optimum fruit concentration, coupled with better body and aromatic intensity.
