Of the 2011 vintage, The Wine Gang said: A ripe, full style of Chardonnay, but one that stays on the right side of freshness and avoids flab. Pineapple, lemon and apple fruit and toasty, vanilla-scented oak around a framework of crisp acidity.
The Errazuriz Estate was founded in 1870 when Don Maximiano Errazuriz planted his first vineyards at Panquehue in the Aconcagua Valley - 100km North of the capital. Recognising that this valley, with its cool, rainy winters, hot, dry summers and moist Pacific Ocean breezes, was ideal for growing grapes, Don Maximiano sent for the finest clones from France and with tenacity and perseverance transformed this barren land into a world class vineyard.
The vineyard’s location in the Valle de Casablanca lends a coastal influence that moderates temperatures during the ripening period. The cool ocean breezes encourage the grapes to ripen slowly, preserving their flavours and aromas and ensuring good levels of acidity. The vineyard was planted in 1997 with different clones; this is reflected in the complexity of the final blend. The vertically-trained, drip-irrigated vines are planted in sandy-clay-loam soils with low vigour potential.
