Chateau Les Ormes de Pez is a leading Cru Bourgeois estate, dating back to the 18th century, which takes its names from the ancient elm trees once found on the estate - "Orme" means elm in French. Since 1940, it has been owned by the Cazes family, the owners also of the famous Cru Classe Chateau Lynch Bages.
Saint-Estephe is situated at the northern end of the Haut-Medoc region of Bordeaux on the left bank of the Gironde estuary. Unlike the other key Medoc areas, the soil here has less gravel and a higher proportion of clay which helps to give the wines of St. Estephe their own distinctive character: They are often richer in colour and flavour and are known for their longevity. Although there are some outstanding classified St. Estephe chateaux (of which Cos d'Estournel is arguably the most famous), most of the wine here is produced as Cru Bourgeois and so it's often a source of excellent wine, often at very good prices
