Expert Opinion

In the press...

Of the 2011 vintage, Rob Buckhaven said: “…a frisky cherry match for Spanish style food.”

Rob Buckhaven - Fabulous Magazine (The Sun) 15/04/2012

Background

History

Felix Solis is a long standing family-run winery in Spain, dating back to 1952. Today, four brothers, Felix, Pedro, Juan Antonio and Manuel maintain the quality and reputation of the company throughout the world and remain focused on producing high quality wines which represent Spain. With state of the art wineries in Valdepeñas and La Mancha, two important Spanish wine growing regions, Felix Solis is one of the principal exporters of Spanish wine in the world.

Winemaking details

Antolin Gonzalez works hard to retain a fresh and delicate rosé wine, requiring a fine balance between the latest technology and careful attention to detail. Once the grapes have been harvested, they undergo controlled maceration, allowing the wine contact with the skins to obtain its characteristic salmon pink. Made from 100% Tempranillo, this is a fruit driven rosé with enough structure to pair with food but the elegance to drink as an aperitif

Regional info

Valdepeñas has a reputation for producing high quality red and rosé wines, suited to survive the harsh, continental climate which makes it much harder for white grapes to survive the drought-like conditions. The resultant stress on the vines produces rich, fruit driven reds and adds complexity to delicate rosé wines. Felix Solis winery has undergone significant expansion over recent decades, turning it into one of the most important in the world. However, despite its modernisation, it preserves its connection to traditional wine making methods; retaining the original warehouses, the tinajas (huge earthenware jars) and the vast underground cellar.

This is a lovely full bodied and fruity Rose' wine, I usually buy a Tempranillo wine as they are generally pretty good, but this is my favourite.

Keep this wine cool but not "fridge cold" say 7 or 8 degrees.Ideal in the summer for a picnic, but why wait?...... For the rest of the year turn up the central heating slip into somthing comfortable and enjoy the fantastic fruity taste of strawberries and cherries; but please , please keep it secret

A full bodied rose

By NorthamptonJules

this rose has an immense amount of depth and flavour. Its deep colour and strength puts it halfway between a normal rose and a red. It accompanies almost any meal, or can be savoured on its own.

This wine is quite nice, it hasn't got the body and depth of some of the rose wines on the market but was really cheap. Its very light and easy to drink.

Sightly disappointing

This wine resembles a red wine rather than av rose. I expect a rose wine to be light in both taste and colour. This looks and tastes more like a medium red wine - a near miss!
