The Wine Gang - thewinegang.com 01/01/2013A cracking vintage fizz from Union Champagne, this is in fact a Blanc de Blancs style, a pure Chardonnay, that is, from the Côte des Blancs sub-region, showing a fine fresh aromatic quality, an elegantly toasty and subtle textured mousse with seductive aged qualities and an intense, lively dry finish. Still a good couple of years ageing to go if you feel like laying down a bottle

History
The producer, Union Champagne in Avize, is the largest owner of premier and grand cru grapes in Champagne, owning some 1200 hectares of vines, thus giving them access to the lion's share of the best quality.

This review is for the 2005 vintage
This champagne has wonderfully soft bubbles that release the most wonderful flavour and provides an irresistible urge to drink more just to savour the intense but mellow flavours. I would definitely recommend this champagne for any occasion as it provides great value for money.

This isn't one of the grand marques but Tesco vintage champagne consistently punches above its weight for quality. It is certainly worth the extra over the Tesco non-vintage, especially if you buy when it is on an offer.

I have tried the 04, 05 and 06 version of this the 04 for me is the best then the 06 and last the 05 good fizz that is well worth the money.

This is truly worthy of the accolades it receives. It is considerably better than some of its more prestigiously named (and priced) competitors. I will have no reservations about ordering additional cases.

As a chardoinnay based wine this is lighter in style than NV wines with pinot noir in them. It will benefit considerably from a little more bottle age, but is a lovely complex and fine wine. When on offer it is great value.
