This is a magnificent Macon, showing off Chardonnay's fruiter side.
Made by the very impressive Prisse winery, this is a great example of the fuller-bodied style of Chardonnay that Burgundy can produce, with ripe melon and apple fruit, served with a citrus twist.
Ideal with simple chicken dishes, or quiches.
This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 1 year
Sarah Mason - Fabulous Magazine (The Sun) 16/06/2013
Of the 2012 vintage, Sarah Mason said: “Light, crisp whites are essential for any summer party and Macon Blanc Villages is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Its pear-drop notes, citrus twist with soft flavours of melon and apple, make it a perfect match for chicken dishes.”
Archaeological evidence establishes viticulture in Burgundy as early as the second century AD, although the Celts may have been growing vines in the region already when the Romans conquered Gaul (in 51 BC). Greek traders had founded Massalía in about 600 BC, and traded extensively up the Rhône valley, where the Romans first arrived in the second century BC. Monks and monasteries of the Roman Catholic Church have had an important influence on the history of Burgundy wine.
