Complex, suggestively varietal.
Dark, brooding.
Savoury at first, yet with air, wafts of pop corn and sweet glaceed fruits arise.
With even more air, ideally via a decant, scents of dark cherry/maraschino are released.
Plush, well-rounded & well-balanced.
Varietal, sweet red-curranted/cherry fruits gain further complexity with cold meat flavours.
Texturally seamless - integrated oak & tannins conspiring to make their tactile impression! The eleventh commercial release of this wine will not disappoint!
The Cellar Reserve Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir was first released commercially in 1997, following a series of winemaking trials by Peter Gago at Magill Estate. Small-batch winemaking practice is central to the overall style of this pinot noir. The fruit is sourced from various cool-climate vineyard sites around Adelaide Hills, and around the clock hand plunging through the fermentation process further optimises the flavours until the wine approaches dryness.
The Cellar Reserve label – established by Peter Gago as an ongoing project – is a range of handcrafted, limited production wines, created in the spirit of innovation and diversity. Utilising special vineyards and unique vinification practices, the Penfolds’ winemaking team explore new varieties and styles, to create boutique wines that expand the parameters of what it is to be a Penfolds wine. Whilst creating this range of excitingly different wines, the winemakers add to their existing winemaking knowledge, which will later find expression in wines across the entire Penfolds range. Largely available only through restaurants, including the Magill Estate restaurant, and Penfolds Cellar Doors, the Cellar Reserve range is an opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts to engage with winemakers and sommeliers at a more personal level. These wines may not be widely available but will always be worth seeking out for anyone who appreciates boldness and diversity in their wine.
