Expert Opinion

In the press...

Of the 2008 vintage, Jamie Goode said: “A blend of the classic champagne varities, pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot Meunier, this is a stylish fizz with some fruity, herby character, a hint of hops and some richness. It has a delightfully fresh, fruity style.”

Jamie Goode - S Magazine, Sunday Express 07/04/2013

Background

History

The first vines were planted at Tenterden in the late 1970's and the vineyard has been continuously producing English wines from this site ever since. Chapel Down now also owns a second vineyard in Aylesford, Kent and manages a number of vineyard sites in the local area. Grapes are sourced from our own vineyards and professional growers in Kent, Sussex and Essex. Chapel Down produces quality English sparkling wines and fantastic still white rosé and red wines under the Chapel Down brand.

Point 1. It is not champagne Point 2. It is a wonderful sparkling wine. Light fragrant. Not at all thin or sharp. Surprisingly long and horribly moreish. These people make great wines. I have always tended to avoid english sparkling as it is relatively expensive, so why not have the real thing. This was a mistake. The wine is not an imitation.
