The colour is a pale straw yellow with exceptionally fine bubbles forming an abundant and delicate mousse.
The complex nose is reminiscent of a mixture of flinty aromas and toast, followed by subtle notes of brioche and vanilla.
The first impression on the palate is fresh and smooth, followed by a refined mid-palate with dominant mellow, creamy, fruity flavours of pink grapefruit and white peach.
The long, rich finish is balanced and harmonious.
Combining delicacy and generous fruitiness with freshness and harmony. Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 1999 displays long ageing potential in the right conditions. Store horizontally, away from direct light, vibrations and severe temperature fluctuations.
This is one of the great champagnes of the world, with the minutest attention to detail being followed at every stage of its production, from the vineyard into the winery. Only produced in exceptional years, and only from Grand Cru rated Chardonnay vineyards, this is a sensational champagne that will live long in the memory (and the cellar if you decide to age it further)!
Champagne Taittinger's origins date back to 1734 with the founding of the original House by Jacques Fourneaux. The Taittinger link was established in 1931 when Pierre Taittinger acquired the House. He was stationed at the Château de la Marquetterie when serving in the 1st World War and fell in love with the property and its vineyards and eventually purchased the company. Today, the Reims based House remains owned and actively managed by the family named on the label.
1999 was notable for its higher than average temperatures . The winter was rather mild and the following spring started off very warm and then became rainy. Thanks to favourable weather conditions, flowering began around mid-June. The exceptionally sunny weather at the end of August, which followed a hot, dry summer, provided the necessary conditions for a perfect ripening. The harvest began in sunshine and continued under persistent rain. The alcohol-acidity combination produced wines from the 1999 vintage which were pure and mature. The Chardonnays have the floral characteristics of great vintages and the Pinot Noirs are not only fine but also have robust, red berry flavours. The 1999 vintage could be compared to the 1982 or 1988 vintages.
