Richly flavoured and spicy, this classic Rioja combines ripe plum and dried fruit characters with cinnamon and vanilla.

This wine is ideal for drinking now but can be kept for up to 3 years
Criadores typifies 21st century Rioja in its careful balancing of tradition and innovation. The winery was established in 2000 with a view to modernise the production of Rioja wines whilst working with the scores of small, local growers.
Paloma Redondo
Rioja is the oldest wine appellation in Spain. The microclimate, with plenty of sunshine combined with a variety of soils are all perfectly aligned for the production of fine Rioja.

Enjoyed this Rioja very much. At half price its a real bargain but even at full price would be a good buy.

I ordered this wine for a party. It went down very well, there were a few bottles left which we have enjoyed with a couple of meals. As it was on special it was a great deal and I would definitely buy this again.

The case was returned to Tesco, as the wine was so poor in quality and taste - surprising given that it was allegedly retailing at over £11 a bottle! Spanish Rioja Reserva wine is usually one of the most dependable and consistent types of wine, but this particular wine has let the side down badly.

We was recommended this wine many years ago by a friend and every year we buy fifteen to twenty boxes. Yes we like wine yes we like Spanish red wine yes we like San Lorenzo. We are not wine experts more we know what we like so we buy it !!!... Hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Rioja is a favourite of mine, and the Castillo de San Lorenzo Reserva is one I have bought several times. It goes well with most meat dishes. I would also recommend it as a wine suitable for serving to party guests. It is an all round excellent choice for many different occasions, and certainly one I would not be embarrassed serving to discerning wine drinkers. Reasonably priced it is great value for someone looking to expand their knowledge of good wines.

As I have written previously I would never make a wine taster other than to say "I don't like that" This wine is one I taste and say "That's nice". That means it's good enough for me. Why pay more?

A very smooth wine, with a medium taste, not harsh like some other Spanish wines can be. Good value when on offer, I recommend this wine and will definately buy again.

I have bought quite a bit of this wine when on offer. If you like Rioja, I recommend it. It is not the most full bodied, but the flavour is good, and it is 12.5% - who wants a sore head and not be able to have a glass on a weeknight? I must say that, at this price, this is among the most decent Rioja around. This is probably one of the best offers around. I see Tesco are limiting the offer to 2 cases per customer, that says it all. It is at least on a par with the lagunilla, the other 50% off offer currently available, and I prefer this wine.

This Rioja certainly lives up to its description. Lovely wine with food but just as good on its own especially on a cold winter evening. Fantastic with a BBQ in the summer. One of our all time favourites.

Castillo de San Lorenzo reserva has been our family favourite Rioja for years, and has been a real bargain when on discount sale. However the 2007 has not impressed the aficienados. I still bought a couple of cases and then had a hunt around in the cellar and located a couple of bottles of the 2004 and 2006. What a difference!. The 2007 still has its light oaky berry flavours ,but it hasnt the physique to hold itself up in the glass and the lingering smoothness of the 2006 (with the 2004 just teetering on the edge of a caustic age-needs finishing up) , is simply not apparent. On balance still a value Rioja at discounted price but avoid it at full price and wait for the 2008.

Good rioja for the price (when on offer at around £5-6 per bottle). Comparable to Campo Viejo (yellow label) and Faustino VII.

I am a lover of Rioja but it can vary widely in taste from tart to almost like drinking perfume. This bottle cuts a swath between the two extremes in my view and sits happily in the centre. Its not going to blow your frock up Madam, but will leave you content that the cost of purchase was well spent particularly with the generous discount I was given at the time of purchase.

I found this wine to be a fine example of Rioja - probably the best I have had in this price range. Plums/spice with a hint of vanilla and a nice aftertaste It is a wine that I would highly recommend and hope to buy again.

This wine with bottle age is at its peak now. It brings the full flavour of the tempranillo grape to the table at an affordable price. Try it with roast lamb, or cheese. It demonstrates that it is possible to produce satisfying wines at a modest ABV of 12.5%

We love this wine. It's smooth and delicious - and goes particularly well with Mediterranean dishes and cheese. The name of the wine has a special resonance for us, too, because Villa San Lorenzo is the Contessa's house on the shores of Lake Como, in my husband's book, The Fifth Day (yes I know it's the wrong country, but we can't help loving the romantic name of the wine). This is also a great wine to take as a gift, if you go to someone's house for dinner. It looks impressive (for its price) and it doesn't disappoint.

This is a wonderful, smooth and easy to drink Rioja. It is not too heavy or tangy and is great with red meat or on its own. I am usually a white wine or rose drinker and have not until now found a red that I find palettable. This wine is usually around £15 so if you see it cheaper it is a good deal! We would certainly buy a case of this again at the right price.

On a deal at around £7.50 a bottle, this was extremely pleasant and drinkable. It's unlikely to knock anyone's socks off, but was rounded, oaky without being overly so, enjoyable on its own or with food, and went down very nicely. I think you would definitely find better if spending a tenner+, but at £7.50 it's a very reliable wine to have sitting around at home.

My mum bought me a case of this wine for Christmas and she really pulled it out of the bag. It's excellent. For the money it's a great Rioja in my opinion. It's delicious and extremely drinkable. Me and my wife polished off the case of 6 over the Christmas period and bought another 2 cases in the new year!! You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!

We dislike over-fruity wines . In this case, the balance of tempranillo / mazuelo / graciano grapes is subtle and provides a hint of dryness when combined with the oak aging . We drink this wine every day to accompany just about everything from cheese , to a variety of meats and sometimes game. We would most certainly buy more of this wine and recommend it to anyone with a taste for Riojas - or to the not-yet-converted ! Do give it a try, we're sure that you will be delighted

Very fruity almost new world in flavour, strawberries and cherries, quite tart/sour. This was like being in the middle of a Spanish fiesta, very lively. A lot of spice going on , mainly cloves but also a softish vanilla feel. Not as structured as some other Rioja's and definitely not as oaky ( I do like my Rioja's slightly on the oaky side) but for everyday drinking you could do a lot worse, a pleasant and fruity drink which is uncomplicated and very drinkable with or without food

I was once a great fan of Rioja but over the years the quality, in my opinion, has slipped and slipped, to the point that I automatically don't even look at Rioja, let alone buy it. On a gut feeling, I tried a bottle and it was lovely, especially when on offer.

I have enjoyed this wine for many years, and fortunately I have a few 2004/5/6 Vintages left to savour. Unfortunately the 2007 Vintage is not a patch on the previous years (esp. 2004). The previous years were very smooth, whereas this has a much harsher finish.

At full price (£11+ a bottle) this is not worth it, but discounted it is at the value it is worth. Coming from Spain I guess that this would be about 3.50 euros a bottle. It has quite a nice taste, fruit and spice combined - and makes a good after dinner wine
