Mouth-watering aromas of black cherry, chocolate and plum combine with an elegant finish and typical of its Tuscan origin.
This Supertuscan is great with red meat dishes such as lamb and beef as well as pasta with a rich tomato sauce.

This wine can be drunk now but will further improve if carefully stored for up to 4 years
Helen McGinn - Femail, Daily Mail 14/03/2013Of the 2009 vintage, Helen McGinn said: “A not so classic, but very smooth, Italian red that’s super at the price. Made from a blend of Sangiovese with a bit of Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot. Really lovely.”
"Super Tuscan" is a generic term used to refer to great wines of Tuscany, labeled under the term "IGT" (Indicazione Geografica Tipica). Prestigious wine producers in Tuscany, confident in their winemaking know-how, decided to break the quality seal (DOC/ DOCG) and make the wines they believed in, using innovative grape blends. Wine lovers, journalists and the international wine trade now praise the quality of these wines. Thus, emerged one of the most renowned and sought after denominations in wine histo
Antonella Conti
Renaissance wine-makers begun making wine in Tuscany over 600 years ago. The rolling hills of Tuscany are the ideal location for growing grapes and the region is world famous for producing premium quality red wines such as the famous Chianti. This Super Tuscan is part of a modern, new-wave group of wine-makers who create wines that lie outside of the DOC classification because they include international grape varietite such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

I must admit that this really needed food, it's big and bold and a little raw and very recognisable as an Italian wine . A blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. In the glass a rusty red tinge to the colour with aromas of plums, dark bitter chocolate and smokey ash. Taste - Initially sweet, sour and spice are the first impressions. A little more sour than sweet almost liquorice but also with a slight spicy herbal flavour, perhaps even a little tomato. Like a lot of Italian wines this is particularly good with food. It' s also the first of the Piccini range I've tried and it's definitely tempted me to try some more.

Typical Italian excellent wine, better with food than on its own, would definitely buy again.

Sorry to have to disagree with the other reviewer. I found this wine thin, acidic and characterless, and that was not just my opinion but also those sentiments amongst a group of friends. I bought this wine when on offer. Perhaps I was expecting too much at the price. I certainly won't buy again, but with many wines, maybe just a question of taste.

I’m a big fan of some Tuscan reds. I really enjoy the n/v blended Piccini Memoro that’s made in Tuscany using the Montepulciano grape as a base. This Piccini is a true Super-Tuscan with the ubiquitous and so variable Chianti grape Sangiovese better used like this, bringing to it Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to create a bold wine of probably quality greater than its individual parts, character-full and delicious. We don’t see that many Super Tuscans on the shelves in Britain, but when we do at this price where so much work has gone into the structuring and blending process we get a lot for our money. Even Super Tuscans bought in Italian supermarkets rarely come this cheap as they do here, especially when it’s on offer. It isn’t a soft Oz Shiraz drinkable on its own, you have to work with it and give it some food, like a hearty ragu with pasta to discover its best side. But it is in there and I’m happy I can lay my hands on it so readily.
