In 1551, Jaume Codorníu began making still wines in Penedès, Spain. In 1872, having studied the ‘champenoise method’ of sparkling wine production in Northern France, Josep Raventós, a descendant of Codorníu, applied the technique to the traditional Penedès grape varieties of Macabeo, Parellada & Xarel.Lo and created the first bottle of Cava. Today Codorníu is an award-winning winery with the best selling Cava brand in the UK and back home in Spain.

The grapes used in Selección Raventós are harvested in two very different wine areas. The Chardonnay grapes come from our vineyards in Lleida, the region with the most continental climate in D.O. Cava. The remaining fruit comes from the Penedés area, where the varieties exhibit their authentic characteristics. This hot Mediterranean climate allows for earlier grape ripening, thereby ensuring a good level of acidity and freshness together with citrus and floral aromas.
