Background

History

Located in the Veneto region 30 km north-east of Venice, Botter was founded in 1928 by Carlo Botter. Over the years the company has developed from a local into an international export business while still being run by the Botter family. It is currently dealing with companies in over forty countries world-wide, from Scandinavia to South America. Although the company is primarily involved in bottling wine produced on various estates in the Veneto and in the other well-known Italian wine regions, the Botter family continues to make wines from its own vineyards: La di Motte estate in Veneto and Friuli . The family is deeply involved in making high quality wines with the help of skilled wine makers.

This is one of the best Tesco wines I have ever had. At first rich "oakey" first impact on the palette then a beautiful lingering smokey fruity berry after-taste. Very good priced wine from Italy.

A rich tasting wine to accompany Italian food and steak. We buy when it's on promotion to top up our modest cellar. Delicious.

This a a reliable wine to drink with dinner. Really benefits from decanting for an hour before drinking. Flavour is smooth and rich. Goes well with pasta and cheese but we drink it with everything as a change to Chianti.

This wine is truly excellent, and would compliment any beef dish, It has a pleasant sharp finish , so goes with cheese also. I have had a dozen of this wine every order since it has been on offer at such a good price, and will keep ordering it.

We love this wine for everyday drinking. It has a full body with satisfying flavours that go specially well with slow cooked meals such as stews and pork belly. Great for summer barbeques. At £24.94 for a case of six bottles this is good value for money.

Bought a box to try having had a great Priotivo from another well known wine supplier. This really was very poor compared to the other. It is very very earthy with nothing smooth about it. I tried leaving the bottle open for a few hours and also capped it and tried it a day later and nothing had changed. I can drink it... just but ubless another bottle is good, I won't drink it again. VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I opened this wine and got a strong petrol chemical smell, had a small sip and decided to return the case, reading the other reviews maybe it was a wrong bottle but decided not to risk opening any more.

Pleasant wine of some character

A good buy at the offer price. It has some character - in my opinion a more interesting wine than many a wishy washy Chianti or Valpolicella.. Italian wines are not my first choice, but the fine French wines of my younger days are now so prohibitively expensive one has to look for affordable alternatives; this makes a pleasant change from Chilean, Australian and NZ reds for everyday drinking.

If you like Italian food, you'll love this wine as a midweek tipple. It's mellow but fruity enough to complement beef lasagne or spaghetti bolognese. It also goes nicely with strong cheese or just on its own. If you can catch it on offer, it's excellent value for a good quality wine. I always keep some in stock.

Primitivo is a rich and full bodied wine with hints of cherry and blackberry and is quite spicey. It goes nicely with lamb, steak and strong cheeses. It is my favourite of all Italian wines.

This is a very full bodied wine, with that great "Primitivo" flavour that is great with most red meats, we especially like it with venison casserole.

Nice fruity red. Not too dry or heavy. Tastes good with red meats and, if red wine is preferred, great on its own. Would recommend for flavour and value.

Opio Primitivo is one of the best Primitivos I have tasted. I have drunk Primitivo in Italy, Switzerland and Germany and this is one of the best. It is full of flavour but lovely on the palate. Excellent with a meal and good enough to drink on it's own I would recommend it to everyone. We bought it whilst it was on special offer and can't stockup enough!!

Bought this on special offer and wasn't expecting much but was pleasantly surprised. If you let this wine breath it opens up into much more though its never going to wine any awards.....a good mid week red wine though don't try and impress anyone with it!

all about money?

The wine in the bottle doesn't change...it's only the price that can be varied by the seller! So should every assessment be about VALUE for the money? Well if the price can vary by as much as 62% then it has a lot to do with overall satisfaction. I would never pay £9.99 for this wine but only because I believe there's always something else to be had for that price that would rate at least 4 stars instead of 2. This wine is a £3.74 bottle. There's little wrong with it as a fruity, alcoholic drink that even develops a little charachterful nose when open for 24 hours. It should offend no-one and readily please the easy-going, less demanding drinker. You get a whole bottle for your money when the same expense might only get you one sad glass in a pub. Buy it now and be happy.

This is never a £10 wine but is a great easy drinking every day red that will never offend anyone at £5 Not complex by any means, medium body, red fruit and plums with a nice acidity level you'd expect from Puglia. A very acceptable value primitiivo at the correct price..

Good quality Italian red

At the price this was available through Tesco on-line £3.75 per bottle, it was probably one of the best reds I have tasted in the last year for taste and value for money and I drink a few. When it is full price of just short of £10 per bottle it is still a tasty drink, smooth and fruity, but not overbearing, it is an anytime red. Highly recommended. 4X

Tasted at a Tesco wine fair, then immediately bought a case. A very good Italian wine, with a rich but very smooth taste. It's like an Italian version of Merlot and a good quality one at that. Very good value and I shall definitely buy again.
